   When I try to activate the plugin it says "Plugin doesn't have a valid header."

   Please use this actual link to get the plugin http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/wp-elfinder/
   or check wp-elfinder.php — the header must be as follows

   Yes, I have 3.0.1

   I'll try manual upload of the plugin and report back.

   It activated this time but I get the following errors when going to the backend menu for it. I should mention I am using WordPress multisite.

   K, it seems I solved post-activation problem. Activation must be really smooth now. Thank You.

   Since You've installed plugin before fix was did, You need to change some of the elfinder settings and save it. This must help with variable types problem.
