Edit Flow looks great, but at the moment I'm looking for a solution so
that a client can manage the workflow for file uploads in some basic
way. So a contributor could upload something that's not available for
download until approved by an editor, say.

I'm guessing the functionality would be something like:

    - Upload unapproved files to a .htaccess-protected directory
    - Shift them to an accessible directory when approved
    - Maybe include a URL rewrite for downloads to extra protection

There's also the issue with submitting revisions for review. I'm using
the Revisionary plugin to allow revisions to be submitted for live
posts. It would also be great for files.

Any plans to add this kind of thing to Edit Flow? Any other plugins
that you know of doing this?

If not, and the client expresses interest in some custom development
for it, would you be interested in it contributing to or otherwise
building on Edit Flow? If I work on this kind of functionality, it might be good to collaborate with a solid plugin that looks like it would benefit from such an addition. Let me know what you think

We don't have any plans currently to add this type of functionality to Edit Flow. Document Revisions would be a great plugin to look at though, and I'm sure Ben would be happy to answer your questions.

    Steve -

You can find some more info on WP Document Revisions including a video walkthrough here: http://ben.balter.com/2011/08/29/wp-document-revisions-document-management-version-control-wordpress/

It sounds like it should do what you're looking for. If you have any questions or if there is any way I can be helpful, please don't hesitate to contact me directly.
