Dynamic Widgets
[resolved] Dynamic widget settings not saving for Blog Page only (12 posts)

On our Blog page (http://serverlift.com/blog) I want the following dynamic widgets to show only on the Blog page:
    -Recent Blog Posts
    -Archives
    -Tags
    -Subscribe

The problem is the dynamic widget settings are not sticking on the Blog page only. It currently will only show the static Facebook widget on the Blog page. Dynamic widgets are displaying on other pages OK, ie. the Twitter widget dynamic to only the Home page (serverlift.com). The above dynamic widgets are displaying on the Blog Posts pages as well (http://serverlift.com/blog/the-new-serverlift-blog). It's just the Blog page that the dynamic widgets are not displaying on.

I have set the following settings on each dynamic widget:

    Pages
Show widget default on static pages? No
    Except the page(s):Blog
    Categories
Show widget default on category pages? No
    Except the categories:
    ServerLift Blog

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

    Hi there,

I couldn't access your blog, as I got constantly a 'connection reset'.
Is it possible the page 'Blog' is using a different template? A template without a dynamic sidebar?

    Hi,

    The site is back up.

Yes, it's possible that the Blog template doesn't have a sidebar. I checked the .php code for template Blog Page Template (tpl_blog.php) in the editor and it doesn't include any sidebar tags. How would I go about adding that code? Or what template should I choose to get desired result?

    Thanks for your help.

    Hi,

I took a quick look, there is a sidebar in the 'Blog' page, but it might be a static one.

You can check the template used by comparing two static pages in the edit screen. There is a box on the right side which displays the name of the template used. If there is a different one used for 'Blog' you might consider and try to use the same template as for the other pages.

The Blog Page template and other templates that show the dynamic side bar both have the same code to include the sidebar:
    <?php include (TEMPLATEPATH . '/includes/sidebar/tpl_sidebar1.php'); ?>

I've tried almost everything. Any other suggestions?

Which theme are you using? I'm going to have a look myself. Maybe I can find out what goes wrong. I must admit it's starting to look like something goes wrong in the plugin.

Thanks. Currently, using WP Remix 3.0 by R5 Ltd And R.Bhavesh. I've just inherited this WordPress setup, but I think very little customizations have been made.

I've even updated the plugin, deactivated and reactivated, etc...

OK, that's a premium theme. I can't test that one out. I'll have to do without it. Going to look into this hopefully Sunday. Sorry, my time is a bit limited at the moment.

What's your Front Page display settings (Settings > Reading)? Reason I ask is I believe I see you're using a static page as the Front Page and a separate Posts page.

When you're using a static Front Page, Dynamic Widgets should detect that and put behind the Front and the Post page the text which one is used for the Front Page and which one for the Posts page. A screenshot when this is active I have here. Is this the case at your end?

    qurl,

Thanks for bringing that to my attention! That was it. The Front page display settings did not have a Posts page selected. I changed it to the Blog page and that did the trick.

On a separate note, how would I go about adding some sort of line break in between the Tags and Subscribe widgets (http://serverlift.com/blog)? They seem to bet set too close together.

Thanks a lot of the great support.

Great the problem is fixed now! :) Thanks for letting me know.

Hmm... Without checking the source, it looks like a div or so is not being closed, or a wrap div is missing. This goes beyond the scope of this topic. I'm afraid I can't help you very much in that matter.
