Finally thought of something this plugin might need...

Most of my sites are rather small, in the 15-20mb package range. But I have a website I'm working on right now that, because it has so many images, packages at 350mb! Needless to say, this takes a really long time to both package, download, and upload. And I'm really worried about it going over 500mb, which is my server's limit for uploading files.

Therefore, would it be possible to have a configuration option to exclude certain files and/or folders? I don't necessarily need to package all the images every time, so that'd help make the package a lot smaller.

Akeeba Backup for Joomla has this option, and I've found it to be very helpful on the larger sites I work with, so that'd be a good reference.

    Thanks,
    - C.

    Hey cwendt01,

In version 0.3.0 you can already exclude directories by opening the options dialog and adding the directories/folders that need to be excluded. In version 0.3.1 you will be able to exclude file extensions like "jpg,mov,mp3" ect.

Probably won't add individual files as a check only because that would have to make a check for every file and would slow down the compression process which we are trying to keep as fast as possible...

    Cheers!

After opening the 'Options...' button, are you referring to the "Directory Filters: Separate by semicolon (/path1/dir1;/path2/dir2)" field? So if I enter paths here, it'll exclude those folders?

I had the feeling it might already have the option, but I just couldn't find it haha.

    Thanks,
    - C.

    That is it ;)

I'll be updating the online docs again to show the new layout...

Sorry to re-open this, but I've tried using the "Directory Filters" but have not been able to get them to work. I've checked your site's online docs and haven't been able to find an answer.

In the config settings > Exclusion Filters > Directories, I have listed:

    wp-content/uploads;wp-content/gallery;

But neither of those directories are being excluded and my backups are still 400mb+. What's the proper syntax for listing directories?

    Thank you,
    - C.

Are you making sure to include the full path from the root all the way down. Using just "wp-content/uploads" will not work as it check the full path all the way from the root folder.

Something like /home/html/mysitename/wp-content/uploads; would be more correct.

    That would be it!

I could've sworn I've tried it with the config settings using the full path before and it didn't work... maybe I was just doing it wrong. My package this time was a measly 15mb, woohoo!

Thanks so much for your response, and especially for being so quick about it. This is truly one of my favorite plugins of all time, and the great support behind it makes it even better... :)

    Thanks so much,
    - C.
