There’s an example of using get_post_meta() to echo results in the article, Using Custom Fields.

This plugin does it too,

And those 2 plugins work nicely together. You use Custom Field Template to enter the custom data under Write Post (for example, MY MOOD TODAY IS: HAPPY). Then you can use Get Custom Field Values to display this custom data on your blog.
