Custom Content Type Manager
Does Order By on the advanced tab work? (4 posts)

On the Advanced tab, on the Edit Content Type page, right at the bottom are two options - Order By and Sort Order. Do they actually work?

I was very much hoping that changing Order By to post_title would allow the posts to be sorted by title and that the previous/next pagination (using previous_post_link, etc) on a single page would honour that. However, the posts are always in either chronological or ID order (can't tell which).

    Cheers

That should be working, yes. You can even sort by custom fields. I've written test cases for it and it's working on the dev branch, so try the latest dev version: http://downloads.wordpress.org/plugin/custom-content-type-manager.zip

As always, I can't give specific answers unless you provide specific details about your version etc. -- if you click on the "File a Bug" link at the bottom of any CCTM page in the WP manager, all that good stuff is printed for you.

Hi. No, your latest dev version does not make any difference. Am I interpreting the functionality correctly (there's nothing about what it should do on your website)? What I think it should be doing is to alter the order of single page posts so that previous_post_link and next_post_link gives the previous/next posts in alphabetical order, rather than creation date (or possibly ID) order?

I have tried turning off all other plugins and it makes no difference. The only thing I can't change is the theme as it's custom developed and nothing at all would work if I switched it to Twenty Eleven.

    Thanks

Ah, no, that's not at all what it does. It orders the lists of posts in the MANAGER, e.g. listing all movies: http://yoursite.com/wp-admin/edit.php?post_type=movie

So instead of listing posts chronologically, you can list them alphabetically etc. But right now it only affects the ordering of the list-views in the manager, not on the front end.

I don't know if it's possible to alter the behavior of the prev/next links -- that would make a good feature request though.
