Contact Form 7
consider serving minified and concatenated js (4 posts)

While speed-optimizing my WordPress installs, I notice that the Contact Form 7 plugin could help people getting faster load times with a few very simple changes.

Currently, it adds three files to the footer and header:

    - styles.css in the header (887 bytes)
    - jquery.form.js in the footer (29kb, not minified)
    - scripts.js in the footer (6kb, not minified)

    That's 3 HTTP requests, and around 36kb.

If jquery.form.js and scripts.js were minified, their file size would be reduced to 13kb and 5kb respectively. Thus, the global load can be cut from 36kb to 19kb - that's an improvement by 50% !! :P

Also, is there anything that prevents you from combining jquery.form.js and scripts.js in a single, minified file? That would be one less file request, hence an even faster loading page.

Those kb numbers may not seem that significant - but if more plugins follow the same practice, they will add up and make for a noticeable performance boost...

By the way, did you have a look at this issue :

It's not a huge issue, since it does not impact the public side - but it would increase the convenience for editors.
