If your SMTP password contains an & character it appears to be encoding it on save, turning it into #amp; (replaced & with # so it renders here), and preventing SMTP from succeeding.

any news on this? this prevents passwords from using special characters thus weakening it :-(
As a belated follow-up to this thread: this does not appear to be an issue with the plugin as of its current release (v3.0). Let me know if anyone experiences otherwise.
