   NextGen button pop-up comes up, but I'm unable to tab thru to Album or Picture. Seems to only want to allow me to insert a Gallery.

   Yes, this is know issue. It will be fix in future versions.

   here you can get source code from SVN SVN link and here you can download latest DEV version of plugin:
   DEV version link. Please try this, but remember that this is beta version of plugin.
