You place the shortcode where ever you want the thumbnail image to appear.

So, if you want to link to a category on your homepage, you could place the shortcode on your homepage. The shortcode itself does not need to be on any of the posts, as it has nothing to do with generating the thumbnail image. It merely finds the most recent post in a category with a thumbnail image, and returns that image.

Hi. I have the same question – I tried to put the shortcode on the homepage and when I posted something new in the category there was no featured image. I’m using Woo Canvas at http://lasertreatmentadvice.com/

    What am I doing wrong?

Does your theme support Featured Images?
Have you chosen a Featured Image for at least one of the posts in the category?

    Yes and Yes.

Huh. I really can’t say then.

Let me know if you figure it out. The plugin, of course, is open source, so feel free to tinker with it.
