Hi swmagic999,
The fields’ length can’t be controlled at the moment. But the general solution to this is to use the short description for the excerpt (list) view and the long description for the single view.
I agree with your premise. Why does the long description show up in the Listings list AND the individual expansion. Shouldn’t it appear ONLY in the expanded listing and NOT in the pure listing?
That would make for MUCH EASIER reading down the listing.
Maybe I’m misreading your statement. Can I control what displays in each listing view?
Yes, you can absolutely control that! Go under Directory Admin->Manage Form Fields and for those you want in the list view, make sure they are in the Excerpt. If you only want them on the single listing, put it the Listing. You can have both as well.
Um, I think you’ve got a problem here. I unchecked the “Show this value in excerpt view? Display this value in post excerpt view.” That would make sense as a control feature.
Rather than simply removing the Long Business name from each, instead the View Listings is now only showing one Listing, not all of them.
Please check this feature. If you need access/proof I’m willing to give it to you offline.
I think you need to change the First Name field from “Meta” to “Content” or “Excerpt”. That might be the issue.
Hmmm. If you are referring to the drop-down field association, the only selection allowed is Post Meta. No other drop-downs on that screen allow for “Content” or “Excerpt”.
Yeah, go ahead and provide me access so I can take a look. Please use the contact form and link to this forum post for context (I get a lot of email):

Sent you the links and codes offline 2 days ago. Did you not get it?
Yes, we received the link–I had my developer take a look at it. Sorry for the delay in response.
About the “First Name” field not appearing in listings, this is intentional. When the field is empty it is not displayed. If the user edits a listing (through the frontend or admin) and enters a value for this field, it will appear. That’s what you’re seeing here.
In “Manage Form Fields”, why can’t I change the value for “Field Association”? Every new form field I try to add can only be a “Post Metadata” and not “Title” or “Category” etc. Why is this?
Hi s14.aperry,
Just an FYI–please create a new thread when you have a new issue. This isn’t related to the old one.
You can only have one Title and one Category field for a WP Post (which BD listings are). These fields are already defined, so you can’t make a second set. You can add Post Metadata fields or Excerpt ones, but that’s it.
