BulletProof Security
[resolved] Can't Delete / htaccess Keeps Reappearing (4 posts)

I've used BPS on several other sites with no issues; thank you for it!

My problem is on a single site (http://imnotsorry.net/) which is hosted on DreamHost. We began getting 500 Internal Service errors. DreamHost advised me that the htaccess file was the issue. We removed the file *and* BPS (at that point only for testing purposes).

With BPS removed and with a standard WP htaccess file uploaded, the site worked correctly for a while. However as soon as I went to bed for the night (natch), the site went down again. When I checked in the morning, the original BPS htaccess file had reappeared.

I've tried every way I know of to delete all aspects of BPS and its htaccess file, and every time it reappears. Each time it reappears it takes down the site.

To note: All plugins and themes are up to date. This is a theme that I've used on dozens of other sites with no issues.

    Advice, please? Thank you!

BPS does not automatically create .htaccess files on it's own. You have to create them when you click BulletProof Mode (Activate them). If you have deleted the BPS plugin files then BPS can no longer create an .htaccess file period so if .htaccess files are being created on your website then they are not being created by BPS if you have deleted the BPS plugin files.

What I suspect is that your site was hacked prior to installing BPS. BPS is designed to protect your site from being hacked not to automatically clean up a hacked site. The other possibilities you might consider are what else could be creating these .htaccess files. Such as auto-restore or maybe something to do with a Cloud.

Another thing that can cause this problem is a broken cPanel tool called HotLink Protection. Please see this post for more information >>> http://wordpress.org/support/topic/plugin-bulletproof-security-htaccess-files-keep-losing-bulletproof-security-code
