clicking on the tags in the cloud or within a group should go to[example.com/groups/tag/the-tag] but only goes to [example.com/groups/] ...which is a list of all the groups.

I noticed the same behaviour on my testing server. Hopefully the developer or a helper can advise on a hack to get this feature working.
