Since WPMUDEV update notification plugin is only downloadable after creating an additional free account other than wordpress.org, this is getting a little complicated to update the plugin.
Why don't you release your own notification plugin to public without registrations?
Or...it'd be better if it works just like other plugins on wordpress.org
