[resolved] [Plugin: Broken Link Checker] Activation causes Admin side of site to crash (6 posts)

I used the previous 2 version of Broken Link Checker with great results and few issues. The previous version of the plugin did seem to fail to update links occasionally, but I figured it happens.

When I updated to the latest version (version 1.2.2] and then activated, my whole admin page disappeared. When I refreshed the page, I began getting error messages.

The url that I got on the admin page changed to this: /wp-admin/plugins.php?activate=true&plugin_status=inactive&paged=1

When the plugin is running I get browser messages [I use Chrome], that say my site is down or relocated. This only seems to happen when I access my site using /wp-admin at the end. As far as I can tell, the rest of the site remains operational.

I renabled the admin side by using FTP and renaming the plugin folder to old.brokenlinkchecker. But I'd really like to figure out a fix or see if the creator has a fix that would make this operational.

My site is http://allisondduncan.com for any WP gurus that may be able to figure out if it's a theme issue or something. But as I've said, the plugin used to work fine. So I'm thinking it's a WP update that is causing this or the plugin itself causing the issue.

    Thanks!

I'm the author of the plugin.

I've been getting similar reports from time to time, for many different versions of the plugin (not just the latest one). So far I haven't been able to figure out the cause. I can only say that it's most likely not a theme issue.

Do you have access to your server's PHP/MySQL error logs? If yes, check them for anything related to "broken-link-checker" or "blc" and let me know what the error messages are.

Also, when you had the plugin active, did the error pages come up quickly, or was there a significant delay between trying to access an admin page and getting the browser's error message?

[error] File does not exist: root/allisondduncan.com/function.require

That's the only error on the error log for my site. I'm not sure if that's because I disabled the plugin or if that's related to something else.

As to the delay, it sits there and cycles but doesn't do anything. It will go the url I posted earlier, then when I hit F5 it cycles to the browser error message. Delays can be quick or lengthy so I'm not sure if it's my server or the plugin.

Hope it helps, and for what it's worth thanks for getting back to me so fast ;)

That error is probably unrelated to the plugin. It is strange, though, that this was the only error in the log. Maybe that's an old log and more recent errors are being logged elsewhere?

Sorry, but I have no other suggestions at the moment.

The updated version of WordPress seems to have cleared up the issue. Broken Link Checker now works with my current install. Closing this thread.

I had the same problem, just install the plugin via ftp instead of the automatic installer and it worked correctly
