Errors after the plugin updates itself (10 posts)

I've been having this problem for a while now. I had it working for a while then my books disappeared (it's in a widget). Sometimes it outputs a permission error in the widget.

The only way to fix it is if I go to the options page and hit "Save Changes" - the books return but disappear after it self-updates.

Any help? I'd like to stick with this plugin but right now it's broken as-is.

Does this continue to happen after the update? Somebody else saw their options get messed up after updating, but once they fixed them they stayed that way.

I'm assuming when you say "update" you're talking about updating to the new version, right? Or do you mean when it refreshes?

    When it refreshes.

And yes it continues after the update.

Thanks for being patient and giving this plugin a shot. Let's see if we can get this fixed.

When no books are displaying, can you view booktuner_cache.xml and verify that there is data stored there?

Also, is that file writable? When you hit "Save Changes," the plugin immediately queries the API in case you made any settings changes - that output gets written to the cache file for later use. If it only ever displays books when you save changes, and it's throwing a permissions error, the .xml file not be properly writable.

Same problem, and silversteelwolf's solution worked for me: out of the automatic install via the wordpress backend, the permissions hadn't been set properly, after changing them everything works fine.

Tried the given solution and it still doesn't work for me. I chmoded the listed file to 666, nothing has changed.

    This may help:

On my site, the booktuner directory is 755 (same for all WordPress plugin directories). Booktuner.php and booktuner_cache.xml both are at 644.

Actually, this is the same error message I keep getting: http://wordpress.org/support/topic/plugin-booktuner-error-message?replies=5

As mentioned above, setting the permissions had appeared to work, but it doesn't anymore. (Am doubtful now whether it ever has.) The booktuner folder and all contents are set to 777 at present, and still booktuner_cache.xml gets overwritten as an empty file.

Yeah, I think I found the real problem that was going on in that thread. If you were getting the exact same error message, the 1.1.2 update should fix it. Thanks for your patience with this!
