Blog posts import, comments do not import v0.4 (9 posts)

    Each time I import, the blog posts fully import (I had to increase the max count to 500 rather than 50 to get them to all import), but the comments do not import at all. Any help is appreciated.

    You should be able to find the section of code below and change the MAX_RESULTS to more than 50 (whtever you need). I also updated the timeout MAX_EXECUTION_TIME to 200 just in case it ran long.

    /**
     * How many records per GData query
     *
     * @package WordPress
     * @subpackage Blogger_Import
     * @var int
     * @since unknown
     */
    define( 'MAX_RESULTS',        500 );

    /**
     * How many seconds to let the script run
     *
     * @package WordPress
     * @subpackage Blogger_Import
     * @var int
     * @since unknown
     */
    define( 'MAX_EXECUTION_TIME', 200 );

    I had a problem where most, but not all, of my posts imported just fine, and many of the comments did not. In some cases, comments came through showing the commenter's name and website link, if they had one, but the comment itself was blank.

    I tried a lot of different fixes. All failed. Until now.

    What finally worked was deleting all of the post and comment data through my c-panel. Wiped out everything but the theme, its settings, and pages. I did not do this as I don't have the knowledge. My host support team (Thank you BlueHost!) did this for me.

    Then I re-imported the blog--twice. First time, I got all but 6 of the posts with their attached comments. So I waited one day, backed up that much, and reimported. This time I got everything, but I also got a lot of duplicates.

    So I had to go through and delete all the duplicates. The good news is, my blog is now imported successfully. Whew!

    Good to hear your blog is imported, I think the issue with the duplicates is to do with differences between the internal ids used between the 0.4 and 0.5 versions.

    When you say the duplicates have to do with differences between 0.4 and 0.5 versions--are you referring to Blogger or WordPress? I did the two imports within a couple of days of each other, and I had not updated either Blogger or WordPress in that time. I already had the latest WP version. Would be good to know how to prevent this in the future as I have other blogs to import.

    When the blogger importer plugin creates the new posts it adds some meta data.

    blogger_author
    blogger_blog
    blogger_permalink

    You can see this when you edit the posts. This is what is used to determine if the posts have already been imported. So if you import with 0.4 then upgrade to 0.5 and re-import I've not tested if that will work, I think the value stored in the blogger_permalink meta data is a bit different.

    If you import with version 0.5 of the blogger importer then re-import with 0.5 you should not get duplicates.

    The version of WordPress should not make a difference
