   Post images are unaffected, but front page images that are derived from the posts as featured images (thumbnails, slider) are missing only on logout. When the better-wp-security plugin is disabled the issue stops. What am I missing?

   Are you using a CDN or SSL? I see this on my own sites due to SSL with a CDN (Amazon Cloudfront has SSL certificate issues)

   No CDN or SSL, but I did figure it out. Looks like it was the "Filter suspicious query strings" setting in System Tweaks. I went through and clicked settings one by one. Looks okay now. Thanks!

   @Somnath: Its a lot of work but you can go through the list of options disabling one, checking, and enabling it if it didnt change. Thats how the OP found out the solution for his problem.
