[Plugin: Better WP Security] Doesn't work properly on running sites (4 posts)

The last few days I've been using this plugin on a number of sites and I encountered various problems. When using it on a fresh installation of WordPress, everything works great. However, when activating it on existing sites, it keeps messing things up.

A few examples of things happening after clicking the button to enable basic security:
    - any other settings with this plugin aren't saved
    - cms tree page view plugin stops working
    - can't deactivate the plugin
    - can't change the admin css in my branding plugin
    - on multisite: the notification to run the network wide update script appears and doesn't go away anymore

As I said, on a fresh install all works fine and it is a really great plugin. However, I don't trust it anymore to activate it on existing sites.

  2. I'm curious as to what errors you are getting during deactivation. There are some features, such as rename wp-content, that are definitely not intended for existing sites and there will always be some plugin conflicts just by the nature of how a plugin like this works. Other than the multi-site notifications (which I'll investigate) and deactivation however I do believe the rest of what you're experiencing aren't problems with BWPS but instead are features that you need to disable for compatibility with other plugins.

I'm not getting any errors at all. That's the strange thing. Also, I haven't used the rename wp-content feature on existing sites. Only the basic one-click-protection.

Maybe some of the problems mentioned might be because of incompatibility with plugins. However, I don't encounter these problems when using a fresh single site install. So these problems arise either because of the combination with multisite and/or with using it on an existing site.

Also, on fresh multisite installations, I encounter problems with the WordPress SEO plugin by Yoast. Some text in that plugin just disappears. Although I'm not 100% sure it is because of a conflict with BWPS, I thought better to mention it here. Just in case others encounter the same problem.

Please ignore my last remark regarding the conflict with the SEO plugin. I just found out this is a problem with the latest version of that plugin itself.
