Google Maps is kind of picky about what coordinates they accept, and the plugin has no control over that. Try going to this page, finding your location, and using the coordinates it gives you.

    Hi Ian,

I’m having the same issue as pphase and using coordinates from the link you suggested doesn’t resolve it. I’m trying to use Los Angeles as my center, so not some place remote. I’ve tried other locations as well and it appears that any changes to the map center address from the default of Seattle produce the error. I’ve also tried the plugin on a different site with the default theme and no other plugins installed, so it doesn’t appear to be conflicting with anything unique to my setup. I am using using multi-site though.

Any suggestions to get this plugin working?

    Thanks in advance!

Hi Kirstin, can you give me a couple examples of coordinates you’ve tried that have resulted in the error? Do you get the error if you try city names “Los Angeles” or “Chicago”?

    Hi Ian,

I get the error no matter what I type in the field. Here are a few of the coordinates I’ve tried.

    City: 34.051698,-118.245599
    Cross streets: 34.052234,-118.234685
    Exact Address: 55.939246,-3.060258

I also get the error when I try typing in a city name with or without the state abbreviation (Los Angeles, Los Angeles, CA).

Those work for me, so I’m guessing the problem is with your server. Either there’s a firewall that isn’t allowing outgoing HTTP connections, or PHP isn’t configured to enable the curl(), fopen(), etc functions. Neither of those are common, so I’d check with your hosting company.

Thank Ian. I will look into this with them and hopefully that will solve it.

    hi
    Thank you for your answer

I sent a query to the hosting
server has no firewall for the function curl (), fopen (), etc. functions

    This is the server settings:

    may have some ideas?

Version 1.6.1 has more informative error messages to help troubleshoot this.

Thanks for the update. It’s working great now.

1.6.1 also bypasses geocoding if you enter exact coordinates, so that may be why yours is working again. If you enter a city name or address, you may still get errors if Google is blocking your requests, but if that happens you should get a more helpful error message now.
