• I’ve written my first plugin and it is now in the repository. I’ve tried adding a plugin Banner Image and carefully followed the instructions on how to place the [png|jpg] image at the root of the plugin repository, in a directory titled ‘assets’. My file is named ‘banner-772×250.jpg’….can’t figure out why it won’t work. Many tutorials/sites have said to wait 15 minutes for it to appear…but nothing. Its been several hours…can’t figure out what might be wrong. Ideas? Thx! rp

  • The issue is the ‘x’ in your filename is not an ‘x’ but a multiplication symbol. Change the filename to the proper name and you’ll be all set.

Not sure what happened to all the original poots in this thread but looks like we all copied the incorrect character from the same article (Matts original announcement!)

    Working for me now, thanks.

Yes, confusing right? where DID all the original posts go…?

Wow – I did the same, and would not have spotted that!

I was looking at the hyphen, in case that had been converted to a proper hyphen (there are half a dozen different types of hyphen in Unicode, that I know about) rather than being an ASCII minus ‘-‘. Didn’t think of looking at the “x”, which is centred vertically when it’s a multiplication symbol.

After renaming the file, the banner image appeared almost immediately. Perhaps WP.org isn’t polling the plugins any more, but just queues up changes to act on as soon as they happen.

    Thanks 🙂
