If you have a site that has a period of inactivity when no-one visits the site for a couple of days then none of the WP cron jobs will run and your backups will be missed. This is normal behaviour for WP.
However, when you then visit the site BackWPUp will say that the next scheduled back up is due 2 days ago and it will never schedule the backup.
