Go to the menu Category Groups, add the new group.

you can then edit the categories by selecting edit of the group in the group overview

This has to do with your theme. Your theme does not display the category when it displays a category archive.

Thanks for your answer. But I don't agree. My theme has always displayed all category names on top of the page and so did also when using your plugin...until I upgraded it to its latest version...There must be another problem

All right I found the problem. It's actually combination between a bug in WordPress and your theme determining if a category page is to be displayed.

When selecting a parent category in a dropdown widget there's no permalink created. http://core.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/15256

When there is a permalink it works fine.

For example your category World News, the wrong page is displayed when selecting it from the dropdown, but when opening the the same category through a permalink it works, in the case of World News that is http://www.freereporter.info/wordpress/category/news/

Hope it helps solving your problem a step further.
