[Plugin: AnythingSlider for WordPress] Won't play? (40 posts)

I've installed the AnythingSlider plugin (http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/anythingslider-for-wordpress/) and set up a few slides, but can't get it to play for the life of me. I have 'Auto Play' checked in the settings, and I verified that jQuery and the slider's JS file are loaded. I can't move to a slide by clicking the navigation boxes either.

I've uploaded this version in hopes that someone can give me a clue as to what I'm doing wrong.

    Any hints are extremely appreciated.

Edit: The dimensions of the slider are also very broken in Webkit for reasons I'm not quite sure of yet. Might be easier to see in Firefox.

    Hi Petroica,

It looks like the options to Enable Arrows and Enable Controls have been disabled.

I'll take a look at the sizing issues in WebKit and let you know what I find out.

    Thanks for using the plugin!

Hi Jacob! I was hoping you would come to my rescue. :)

Silly me. I now set Build Arrows, Build Navigation, Build Start/Stop, Toggle Arrows, Enable Arrows, Enable Navigation, Enable Start/Stop all to yes, and the arrows and navigation boxes now work, but I still can't seem to get autoplay working.

I have Auto Play, Auto Play Locked set to yes, with the rest of the slideshow options set to no. What am I missing?

Thanks for this plugin (and your help)! I love the AnythingSlider.

Edit: Here's a screenshot of the weird dimensions thing. http://i51.tinypic.com/nqcwlx.png This is the same URL in Safari 5.0.5. Sometimes it loads fine, and sometimes it loads like this (without me changing anything). This happens in Chrome as well. Perhaps it's something weird on my end, but I can't imagine what.

What happens if you set the resizeContents to true? Or the Expand option to true?

I set resize to true and haven't seen the weird dimension problem since. Will let you know if I do see it again. (It was happening very randomly.)

Any idea why my autoplay isn't working? Some other setting that's overriding 'Auto Play: yes'?

Glad you got those pieces working. Now for the autoPlay...

@mottie might have an idea, as he's a core developer of the jQuery plugin. Any thoughts, Mottie?

I'll have a look also and will report back soon!

We figured out what the error is. We'll fix it and update the plugin asap. In the meantime, you can set the resumeOnVideoEnd option to true, and the slideshow should play.

Woohoo! Very glad to see autoplay working. Thanks!

There is one other issue I've run into. In IE8, my arrows on the slideshow at http://www.robinbijlani.com/awcfdev/ are getting cut off. Only their bottom half is shown.

I did replace the arrows, but I made new arrows placed in the same position as the image sprites of the original. I changed div.anythingSlider .arrow and div.anythingSlider-minimalist-square .arrow to top: 170px;, as well as removing the .back a.hover and .forward a.hover css bits, but they still got cut off before I made these edits.

I think it might have to do with IE8's handling of absolutely positioned elements.

Trying to get to your demo site, but am getting a page cannot be displayed error... I'll check again in a couple hours. Glad we've just about got it working!

Arg, stupid host! DownForEveryoneOrJustMe.com agreed that it was down, but says it's now up again. Sorry about that.

No rush. :) I think I had the same issue with the non-WP version in the past, so maybe Mottie might have some input.

I'm seeing the entire arrows in IE8 on Windows 7.

Interesting. I'm on Win7 and in IE 8.0.7601.17514 I'm not seeing the arrows on the WP plugin or the non-WP plugin ( http://www.robinbijlani.com/lfrc/ , for example) .

weird. that works for me too, although their nav is broken...

In the middle of tinkering with that site. :)

Very strange about the arrows, though. I can't make sense of it.

    Hey Jacob!

Just wanted to let you know we figured out the problem (see this issue).

I don't know why it was working for both you and I but to fix the problem just change the conditional code to load the ie specific css for IE8 as well as IE7. I don't plan on changing it in the core plugin just yet since it seems to be an isolated incident, but keep it in mind ;)

    <!--[if lte IE 8]>
    <link rel="stylesheet" href="css/anythingslider-ie.css" type="text/css" media="screen" />
    <![endif]-->

Side note: Including the whole IE stylesheet for IE8 had the unwanted effect of also breaking the navigation link boxes. (They now look like vertical black lines at http://www.robinbijlani.com/lfrc/ for me.) But that's easily fixed. I'll just make a separate IE8 stylesheet for just the arrow issue, instead of using all the IE7 fixes.

Thanks to both of you for all your help and work on the slider!

Arrow navigation won't work for me.

I had the same problem with the size until I made Resize "Yes".

Hey beyoyo2. Sorry to hear your having trouble with the plugin.

It looks like I may have screwed up the Interactivity Settings... Try filling those in with "click" and see if that works. I'll release a patch asap.

Adding click in Interactivity Settings worked.

I am having trouble getting it figured out for a manual slideshow
have tried all kinds of different variables, but not much love

keyboard arrows will navigate but buttons then disappear (except left side), same with bottom nav button, click once then they disappear.

not sure if you can see the settings but currently
    http://mubustories.com/elephant-gossip-book/

WordPress 3.2.1 loading jquery 1.6.1, SimpleMarket theme from wpmudev
same problem across chrome and firefox
swipeleft, swiperight, click in interactivity settings

Can you offer a list of default settings needed for manual navigation? I would really like to use this plugin--- but having trouble

    hope you can help, thanks

    Hi wasanajones.

Sorry for the delayed response. Many apologies.

I just updated the plugin, which fixes the missing options. If you delete your current version and reinstall, everything should work. Deleting the plugin won't remove your slides, it will just hide them until you reinstall.

Let me know if that works.

    Thanks,
    Jacob

    Hi Jacob,

I'd like to add a conditional IE8 stylesheet to take care of the issue I mentioned above with only half of the arrows showing. (Applying the entire IE7- stylesheet messes up the navigation boxes.) But I'm having a hard time figuring out where the conditional stylesheets are set up for the plugin. I've been digging through the plugin folder as well as /wp-includes/. Any hints?

    Hey petroica,

I don't yet have any conditional stylesheets setup for the plugin. You could create your own conditional stylesheet for IE8 and add it to your theme's header.php like you would any IE-specific stylesheet. Make sense?

I am also having the half a first slide issue in Chrome and Safari both PC and Mac. It looks fine on Firefox and IE9/IE8. Here is the build site: golftriporegon.com. Any Ideas?

    Hey dj_hiking,

Looks like you got it fixed, no? I just tested in chrome/safari on my mac and everything looks good.

    Hi Jacob,

I just wanted to mention that I would love to see an option to prevent seeing the unstyled list of slides for a second before the slideshow is arranged properly.

The jQuery plugin fixed this in a recent version. Is there an easy way to tinker with the WP plugin to achieve this also?
