[resolved] [closed] Keywords Not Appearing (15 posts)

    I've been having an issue with my site since the update and today I tried using various keyword density tools and none of them generated any data. When I compared the view source from my page to a couple of friend's pages I noticed this was missing from my site "
    <!-- All in One SEO Pack 1.6.14.5 by Michael Torbert of Semper Fi Web Design[287,308] -->" Could something have gone wonky with the way the update was processed? By the way I tested a few pages from my friend's sites (the same sites I compared the view source) and their keywords generated without issue.

    I could really use some help here, I'm wondering if this is the reason for my site issues.

    Thanks!

    There seems to be a conflict with another plugin or your theme.
    What theme are you running? What are your other plugins that are activated?

    Hi Michael

    My theme is Sandbox Version 1

    I have updated to the newest WordPress 3.4.1

    There are the plugins I have installed:

    Akismet 2.5.6
    Executable PHP widget 2.1
    FeedBurner FeedSmith Extend 1.0.0
    Google XML Sitemaps 3.2.7
    IP Filter 1.0.3
    NextGEN Gallery 1.9.3
    Really simple Facebook Twitter share buttons 2.5.1
    Redirection 2.2.13
    Related Posts Thumbnails 1.3.1
    Shareholic email, bookmark, share buttons 6.0.0.3
    SI Captcha Anti-Spam 2.7.5
    WordPress Print This Section 2.7.5
    WP-Paginate 1.2.4
    WP htaccess Control 3.3
    WP Minify 1.2.0
    WP Robots.Txt 1.0
    WP SuperCache 1.1
    Yet Another Related Posts Plugin 3.5.1

    The gentleman that does my web work believes its conflicting with WP Super Cache, to get it to populate the keywords in the tool he had to turn off the compression. But my concern is I'm wondering if it was the cause of all my posts dropping in the serps. I noticed Google had to generate snippets because none of meta descriptions were appearing. I've dropped huge in search engine traffic and my posts have fallen from the 1st page to in some cases the 50th page.

    My developer said that he had to remove the compression for it to work but I still don't think the code is proper because it's not loading with the name of your plugin and the meta syntax (I think that is what it is called) looks chopped up, see below:

    name="generator" content="WordPress 3.4.1" /><link
    rel='shortlink' href='http://gracessweetlife.com/?p=8468' /><meta
    name="description" content="Find recipe for Black Licorice Crème Brûlée and Sambuca-Caramelized Figs and other Plated Desserts and Dessert Ideas for dinner parties at Grace's Sweet Life." /><meta
    name="keywords" content="easy baking recipes, licorice recipe, dessert recipes with pictures, recipes for creme brulee, italian dessert, fruit desserts, recipe creme brulee, custard recipes, simple dessert recipe, easy recipes for baking" /><link
    rel="canonical" href="http://gracessweetlife.com/2012/07/liquorice-creme-brulee-and-caramelized-figs-with-sambuca/" /> <script type="text/javascript">window.___gcfg = {lang: "en"};
    (function() {
    var po = document.createElement("script"); po.type = "text/javascript"; po.async = true;
    po.src = "https://apis.google.com/js/plusone.js";
    var s = document.getElementsByTagName("script")[0]; s.parentNode.insertBefore(po, s);
    })();</script> <meta
    property='og:image' content='http://gracessweetlife.com/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/Black-Licorice-Crème-Brûlée-300x300.jpg' /><link
    id='MediaRSS' rel='alternate' type='application/rss+xml' title='NextGEN Gallery RSS Feed' href='http://gracessweetlife.com/wp-content/plugins/nextgen-gallery/xml/media-rss.php' /><style type="text/css" media="print">#wpadminbar { display:none; }</style><style type="text/css" media="screen">html { margin-top: 28px !important; }
    * html body { margin-top: 28px !important; }</style></head><body><div

    I would really appreciate any guidance you can provide because I took another nosedive in impressions. I know I haven't been manually penalized by Google because I reached out to them and I don't participate in any link schemes or do anything like that so I know it has to do with code. Everything started slipping after a large amount of plugins were updated late April first week of May.

    Look forward to your reply Michael - thank you!

    Grace

    Grace,

    I took a look at your site, and something -- perhaps the WP Minify plugin -- is stripping out extra comments and white space in your HTML; the canonical link All in One SEO Pack puts on each page is still in place, and on the home page I still see the description and keywords. Try disabling WP Minify temporarily and clearing the cache in WP-Super Cache, and then see how your pages look.

    Peter please bear with me, if I deactivate WP Minify will it stay in my WordPress dashboard? And how long do I deactivate for? I've never done anything like this, I usually hire someone to do everything with my site. I don't want to do anything that I wouldn't be able to easily revert back to.

    Thank you so much for your help!

    Grace

    Grace,

    It won't stay on your dashboard, but it will reappear when you reactivate it under 'Plugins'. I haven't worked with that plugin lately, so it may have specific settings that control this behavior, if you'd rather look for that; deactivating a plugin is just a quicker means of troubleshooting.

    Hi Peter

    I think I figured it out and when I followed your instructions the code reverted to this:

    <!-- All in One SEO Pack 1.6.14.5 by Michael Torbert of Semper Fi Web Design[586,702] -->
    <meta name="description" content="Find recipe for Black Licorice Crème Brûlée and Sambuca-Caramelized Figs and other Plated Desserts and Dessert Ideas for dinner parties at Grace's Sweet Life." />
    <meta name="keywords" content="easy baking recipes, licorice recipe, dessert recipes with pictures, recipes for creme brulee, italian dessert, fruit desserts, recipe creme brulee, custard recipes, simple dessert recipe, easy recipes for baking" />
    <link rel="canonical" href="http://gracessweetlife.com/2012/07/liquorice-creme-brulee-and-caramelized-figs-with-sambuca/" />
    <!-- /all in one seo pack -->

    But when I activated WP Minify it went back to the code as it was before.

    I did this:

    Deactivated WP Minify

    Cleared the cache in WP Super Cache

    Activated WP Minify

    Should I wait a period of time before activating it again (does it need a certain amount of time) or will the conflict mean I can't activate WP Minify? And if I can't what does not having the WP Minify do to my site?

    Sorry for all the questions.

    Grace

    Grace,

    Not a problem at all; WP Minify is doing what it is supposed to do, which is get rid of extra whitespace, comments, etc. in an attempt to make your web pages load faster. I've taken a look at it now on a test site; try doing this:

    - Activate WP Minify if it isn't already.
    - Go to Settings -> WP Minify in the admin.
    - Uncheck the "Enable HTML Minification" option.
    - Click "Update Options"
    - Clear the cache in WP Super Cache

    ...and then let me know how things look!

    OMG you are a genius Peter, I followed your instructions and this is hope it looks now:

    <link rel='shortlink' href='http://gracessweetlife.com/?p=8468' />
    <!-- All in One SEO Pack 1.6.14.5 by Michael Torbert of Semper Fi Web Design[586,702] -->
    <meta name="description" content="Find recipe for Black Licorice Crème Brûlée and Sambuca-Caramelized Figs and other Plated Desserts and Dessert Ideas for dinner parties at Grace's Sweet Life." />
    <meta name="keywords" content="easy baking recipes, licorice recipe, dessert recipes with pictures, recipes for creme brulee, italian dessert, fruit desserts, recipe creme brulee, custard recipes, simple dessert recipe, easy recipes for baking" />
    <link rel="canonical" href="http://gracessweetlife.com/2012/07/liquorice-creme-brulee-and-caramelized-figs-with-sambuca/" />
    <!-- /all in one seo pack -->
    <!-- <meta name="NextGEN" version="1.9.3" /> -->

    Thank you so much! Now if I could only figure out how to keep compression on in WP Super Cache to be able to use Keyword Density Tools. As soon as I allow compression non of the keywords populate. I am slowly ticking off all the problems on my site with helpful people like yourself Peter. I really can't thank you enough. Do you think this could've been the reason my pages were falling from first page in search to oblivion? All of my site issues started after a bunch of the plugins were updated. I reached out to Google to see if I was manually penalized (didn't think it was the reason because I do everything by the book but I've heard of so many sites that haven't done anything wrong but were still hit with Google algorithm changes)?

    Thank you so much again!

    Grace

    Grace,

    Either scenario is possible; search engines like Google look at all manner of things, and they are always updating their algorithms and testing things out. For Google, their webmaster tools can be helpful for keeping up with things as well.

    Best of luck to you!

    Hello everyone,

    I'm having a similar problem...

    I've recently installed All in One SEO pack and have added a site title and desription as requested. I've also added page titles and descriptions on the page editor.

    However, none of this is showing up when I search in Google. All that shows up is a site title (automatically generated, not the one I added) and what appears to be automatically-generated text as the site description. This description isn't even anything to do with my site's content, it says

    "Primary Widget Area. This theme has been designed to be used with sidebars. This message will no longer be displayed after you add at least one widget to the ..."

    And I don't even have a widget sidebar.

    I have tried deactivating all other plugins I have been using - there aren't many, and I don't have the one you talk about above - but there is still no change.

    I also have another site which is affected. I have been using All in One SEO on that site for a while and have never had any problems, but I have recently checked it by searching in Google, and the site title and description are not shown as I set them. But in this case, the description is generated from site text.

    So, after all that, can you help?

    Sami

    P.S.
    The new site I'm having problems with is http://www.romackservices.com, and the older site which has recently started having problems is http://www.love-yourself-naturally.com.

    Sami,

    All in One SEO Pack seems to be configured fine on both of your sites; as I told Grace, Google Webmaster Tools is your best bet for figuring out why Google is doing what it's doing with your site. We can't control what Google chooses to display in its search results, only offer content to it as suggestions; ultimately, it will decide what content from your site it chooses to display in its search results. For Romack Services, that text is what Google saw on the site on September 14th; you can check that in Webmaster Tools and ask Google to recrawl your site if it's fixed.
