Akismet plugin does not seem to work properly with FS Contact Form, which supports spam filtering through Akismet. I submitted the same spam message via form and as a comment. Comment was blocked by Akismet as expected, but the message went through with the following line in the body:
Akismet Spam Check: passed
I contacted the author of FS Contact Form, Mike Challis, but he couldn't figure out why comments and messages are treated differently by Akismet. I hope that Akismet creators can help me to investigate this issue. I am using FS Contact Form v.2.9.6 and Akismet v.2.5.1.
Easiest way to reach out for help with Akismet is to use the contact form at akismet.com/contact/
Mike is welcome to contact us there and we can help track down what is going on. I'm not familiar with FS Contact Form, so some basic questions come up:
- Does it make direct calls to the Akismet API or does it use the Akismet plugin functions?
- Are you sending the same data points when checking for spam, as listed in the API docs - http://akismet.com/development/api/
- Have you recorded the exact HTTP request/response when making the call to Akismet.com to check for spam? That may provide some insight into what is happening.

Thank you for the quick answer, Joseph.
Mike has just released a new version of his plugin (2.9.7) which fixes this issue. I consider it resolved now.
