   So I upgraded to WP 2.5, that in itself was... a nightmare. Basically things went bang, poof, smash. I managed to save my posts/comments, and so installed a fresh WP 2.5, and imported what I'd saved.

   I've been getting all my old plugins back, akismet the first priority.

   However, I'm finding that whenever I go to the dashboard, it will say how many spam comments akismet has caught for me, which increases daily. But there is never anything in the spam queue, and never has been with this new install.

   My site is currently 'locked down' while I'm maintaining it, but obviously that doesn't mean spam still wouldn't still get through.

   So basically, is there a reason the spam count increases without anything landing in the spam queue to look at? Am I just paranoid about what akismet is supposedly eating?

   To update, my problems with WP 2.5 were not entirely over.

   I don't know why, but upgrading my domain to PHP 5 (from 4) has fixed everything! I most certainly do not understand this, considering WP does not require the higher version of PHP! Weird!

   Anywho, I've since, yet again, started a fresh install of WP, and this time akismet is seemingly behaving itself.

   The more likely explanation is that there is an option under the askimet configuration to automatically discard spam comments on post older than a month and these would still be counted in the spam total but not show up in the moderation que.

   Ah, that makes sense. I certainly hadn't thought about that! My bad.

   However, this wasn't the only problem I was having with WP, and upgrading to PHP 5 certainly did 'fix everything'. (In the event anyone might think I upgraded just for the sake of akismet!).

   I apologise for my lack of knowledge regarding 'such' things, and therefore possible arrogance/ignorance to related issues. ;-) My general failure to use my useful brain cells tends to be a problem too!

   Deary me.
