[Plugin: Akismet] API Key, Move Blog from WordPress.com to WordPress.org, Stats? (5 posts)

    Hi,

I moved a blog that was hosted on wordpress.com via the Custom Domain upgrade to self-hosting using wordpress.org.

So now I have a blog at wordpress.com of the form abc.wordress.com (which is stale now) and a blog using wordpress.org of the form http://www.abc.com.

After the move, I installed Akismet on my wordpress.org blog using the API key that I had at WordPress.com.

Akismet is working catching spam, but my question is about the statistics.

For example, I see this line in my dashboard

"Akismet has protected your site from 19 spam comments already, and there are 4 comments in your spam queue right now."

I don't remember seeing 19 spam comments in my queue. Maybe 8 or 9 that I have seen and officially marked as spam. (Note: This blog hasn't been up at my new host for 30 days yet, so spam comments would not have been deleted automatically yet).

    So my questions are:

    1. Do the statistics combine the spam caught at both my wordpress.com blog and this wordpress.org blog since I am using the same API key?

    2. Does Akismet catch and delete spam without ever putting it in the spam queue first, which is why I may be thinking there is a discrepency?

    Thanks.

    1. No.

    2. Yes, if you enabled that option on the Akismet config screen. Only on posts older than a month, I think.

    Otto42,

Thanks for the reply. But I have an inclination to at least question you on the answer to the first question.

    Take a look at this:

"1304 spams caught, 367 legitimate comments, and an overall accuracy rate of 99.704%."

That is on the Akismet page on my wordpress.org blog. Obviously like I said above Akismet has protected my wordpress.org site only 19 times. The other ~1285 or so were from my wordpress.com blog.

So in some way the statistics are intermingling, right?

Well, given that, I suppose I'm wrong. :)

I didn't think they mixed, but heck, maybe they do for Akismet.

    Otto42,

    Not saying you're wrong -- I am saying I am confused ;-)
