    Hello,

I noticed that although our Add To Any button was appearing, for some reason when hovering over the button the pop-up menu did not pop up.

I read number of forum posts describing a similar problem and while solutions such as clearing the cache or ensuring your template conforms to WordPress structure standards are completely valid, they didn’t fix our issue.

Then I finally noticed that we had two instances of the Add To Any buttons on our page(s) – i.e. one above the post, and one below. When we removed one of the instances the menu began to work once more!

In conclusion, removing all but one instance on a single page was our solution, and may be yours too.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks for sharing!

Just to be clear, AddToAny does support multiple buttons one page. 🙂

Did you have AddToAny installed manually in your theme? A lot of times this issue is caused by your theme improperly processing your post content for such things as post excerpts, which causes an additional AddToAny button to output internally, but not externally. So while you think you have only one or two buttons on your page, internally you may have two or three due to a buggy theme.

Look for an AddToAny update soon that will work around these rare but annoying cases. 🙂

micropat, I believe that I am having the issue that you describe:

Hovering works everywhere except on my homepage.

I am using the Graphene theme from the repository. I selected that it not display the share button on excerpts. I did this because of the slider in the theme. I want the share button at the top of a post, and if it displayed above the post, the slider would show only the share button, and not the post excerpt. See here: http://test1.nucleoblog.com/

If I allow the share button on excerpts, hovering works on the homepage. Is there a fix/workaround for my dilemma? Can I make a adjustment to my theme somehow to fix this?

    Thanks in advance.

jb317, you’re right, it’s the same issue. The problem is that your theme’s slider uses its own form of “excerpts” instead of WordPress’ native excerpts function. The theme author should fix this.

The workaround is to either disable the slider or to hardcode the button into your theme: See “How can I add both the button and the individual icons to another area of my theme?” in the FAQs.

At one time we used to be able to hover over the Add to Share button and the drop down menu would indeed appear. Now it doesn’t. We are using Advanced_Newspaper_14 1.4 – FrameWork 1.0 theme.

Any suggestions? I read the FAG but it’s instructions didn’t help.

@troy – did you recently switch themes? Try switching themes and disabling other plugins to narrow down the cause. It’s almost always a theme problem. If you’re stuck, link us to your site so we can take a closer look.

We can’t change theme because we put a lot of effort into the one we have. The only switch we made, and it was before the problem started, was to update the theme itself.

Of course we also upgraded to the lastest version of wordpress, which I admit we thought was the problem.

Our site is http://www.troymedia.com. Could you tell me what you mean by linking to our site? How would I do this?

@troy try temporarily disabling your ‘Related posts” and “Recent entries” areas. Those are the likely culprits and should be fixed.

As mentioned above, the alternative is to hard-code the button into your theme. See “How can I add both the button and the individual icons to another area of my theme?” in the FAQs.

    Micropat,

I’ve been following the tips you’ve provided but still have a problem with the Share/Save button NOT appearing on mouseover. It worked a couple of weeks ago, but I’ve since had a web designed overhaul the theme.

I hard-coded the button and indiv service chicklets to the header on my single_post page, but that did not solve the hover problem.

@vrsolis1 you have a lot of theme validation errors that are likely causing issues with AddToAny and possibly other parts of your site/plugins: http://validator.w3.org/check?verbose=1&uri=http://initiaeducation.com/2011/03/how-to-harness-the-power-of-confidence-using-1-simple-technique/

If AddToAny works in Twenty Ten or another theme, it’s definitely a theme problem.
