[Plugin: Add to Any Bookmark Button] Exclude from feeds? (5 posts)

    I can't think of any reason why the add to any code is showing up in just one item in my feed. Check it out:

    http://thepete.com/category/feed/

    If you look for the item from 2/24/2008 (the top item as I type this) I see "a2a_linkurl=" etc.

    Is it just that the text in the post is too short? I think this is the case since a check of another feed shows the "a2a" code in every post.

    See what I mean here:

    That's the feed for my Twitterstream--so, all the posts are too short. So, is there a way to exclude your "add to any" code from the RSS feed?

    Delete
    add_action('the_content_rss', 'A2A_SHARE_SAVE_to_bottom_of_content');
    in add-to-any.php should do it.

    The plugin author is doing the whole plugin wrong, but whatever.

    Thanks for the fast reply, Haochi!

    I deleted the line, but it seems like it's not working--at least, not yet. I'm not sure how often a WP feed refreshes, though.

    Hi Pete,

    Haochi's advice should do the trick.

    Admittedly, there is some work to be done in regards to polishing the button for use in feed items. Look to the next version for that. Also, expect a setting for removing the button from feed items in the next release.

    Haochi, obviously "the whole plugin" is not wrong, but I certainly welcome your suggestions. ;)

    Actually, upon further review, it appears that the latest WordPress ignores the_content_rss, so there's not much we can do to 'polish' the feeds as intended, and haochi's advice above will not work.

    So ultimately, it looks like the best way to exclude the Share/Save/Bookmark buttons from your feed is to uncheck the option in the plugin's settings for including the buttons in posts, and to put the following tag somewhere in your template:

    <? if( function_exists('ADDTOANY_SHARE_SAVE_BUTTON') ) { ADDTOANY_SHARE_SAVE_BUTTON(); } ?>;
