• When users ‘Share’ in Facebook – the ‘dash’ in the title converts to – – can this be fixed?

The post title was “#1 – Why bother to write this down?”

What is posted when share is used is:

“#1 – Why bother to write this down?”

    Thanks, Amanda

UPDATE: Wow – ok – what it converts to, just converted to a dash in my message…so, spelling out my problem the dash turns into an ampersand, followed by a number sign, then the numbers 8211 then a semi-colon. Obviously this is some sort of code…help!

  • What version of the plugin are you using? This problem should have been fixed in version 1.115, but it could be a Facebook bug also.

I have found this bug. The development version (follow the link in the changelog) should fix this. Please let me know if it does or doesn’t.

Thanks – I’m running 1.119 – I’ll try and use/load the development version and let you know. (I’m not the brightest light, so I’m gonna do this tomorrow when I’m fresh!) In the meantime, posted my last update without a dash in the title and it shared beautifully. Thanks, I’ll let you know if the ‘fix’ works…

Hi sorry – not enough tech knowledge to know how to run the development version. Hopefully you’ll be able to add a fix and upload a new version – until then, I’ll try and avoid dashes in titles…unfortunately your program also dislikes the single apostrophe punctuation as well…not sure how to avoid that…”I’m” or “Don’t” in the title causes the same math formula. THANKS…I look forward to your next version to fix my woes…

    You can do this …

    1. Download the development version by clicking on this link
    2. Go to ‘Plugins‘ on your WordPress dashboard
    3. Deactivate‘ Add Link to Facebook
    4. Delete‘ Add Link to Facebook (Yes, delete these files)
    5. Click ‘Add New
    6. Click ‘Upload‘ (a link at the top)
    7. Click ‘Choose file‘ and find the file downloaded before
    8. Click ‘Install‘, then ‘Activate Plugin

    You are welcome.
    Thanks for reporting back.
