• I am using WordPress 3.5.1 for my blog at http://www.omnichannelretailing.com which is hosted by Go Daddy. They are telling me they do not support 3rd party applications like WordPress so I need to contact you directly.

I have a couple of questions. First is I would like to use my own custom avatar, http://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-user-avatar/installation/ , but it isn’t installing:

    “Downloading install package from http://downloads.wordpress.org/plugin/wp-user-avatar.1.4.2.zip…
    Unpacking the package…
    Installing the plugin…
    Could not create directory. /home/content/91/10810591/html/wp-content/plugins/wp-user-avatar/
    Plugin install failed.
    Return to Plugin Installer”

Any suggestions for why this is happening? And in trying to install Akismet to prevent spam comments, that is also failing to install:

    “Downloading install package from http://downloads.wordpress.org/plugin/akismet.2.5.7.zip…
    Unpacking the package…
    Installing the plugin…
    Could not create directory. /home/content/91/10810591/html/wp-content/plugins/akismet/
    Plugin install failed.”

so wanted to get your thoughts there as well. I am using an older PC running Windows XP v5.1 (Build 2600…: Service Pack 3) and I do not have WordPress installed locally on my PC.

    Thanks.

  • You don’t need anything installed on your computer. It may be a permissions issue – so you can check on those first:

    http://codex.wordpress.org/Changing_File_Permissions

If that does not work, you can also try installing the plugins manually – http://codex.wordpress.org/Managing_Plugins#Manual_Plugin_Installation

I would be so grateful if someone could help me with my Akismet installation. I am pretty code/computer speak illiterate, so a little patience and laymen’s terms would be appreciated. This is my first experience with a website / blog. I installed WordPress on my host of DreamHost. From there I have installed several plugins, Akismet being one of them. Akismet allows me to activate the product and I have received an API key from their website. When I go back to the dashboard and look under Plugins, the only option for Akismet that shows up is to return to the Akismet website to get an API key, which I already have, or a link that seems to be broken that shows “I already have a key”. This link doesn’t go anywhere or allow anything else to load. I am not able to input my API key because the Akismet Configuration page doesn’t show up at all. Any ideas or thoughts?

I checked out the link above which is making my head spin. Help! TY!

WendyQ – post this as a new question
