Plug in does not work (4 posts)

    Hi,

I installed Speedy Smilies today and it didn't work so I've de-activated it for now. The only problem is that any smilies that I now manually type into my blog posts no longer work either - they simply show up as the punctuation marks instead of smilies.

I noticed that when I installed the plugin, it editted my stylesheet. Any idea on how to fix this?

    Thanks,

The option in the Speedy Smilies plugin for Convert emoticons like :-) and :-P to graphics on display is the same as the option in WordPress Settings > Writing. You probably unchecked this box before getting rid of the plugin. If you unchecked this box and then disabled/uninstalled the Speedy Smilies plugin, the traditional WordPress emoticons will still be disabled. To turn on the emoticons again, go to WordPress Settings > Writing and check the box.

Disabling the plugin should immediately return your blog to normal. If you have a caching plugin such as W3 Total Cache or WP Super Cache, you'll need to clear the cache after you disable Speedy Smilies in order for your blog to return to normal.

I'm sorry to hear you are having problems. The plugin will not modify your actual stylesheet, but it does create a cached copy of the stylesheets and these are modified. If you can provide any more info on how the plugin didn't work, I'd be happy to look further into it. Did you experience any problems with your blog's styling/theme after enabling the plugin (e.g., missing formatting and colors)? Was all of the formatting still correct, but there were no emoticons? Did you receive any error messages? Did you try both the fast and slow (compatibility) methods under the Speedy Smilies settings page?

No, I did not uncheck this box. I've checked again and emoticons are still enabled. Nor do I don't have any caching plugin installed.

Any emoticons that I typed manually prior to installing your plugin still work but everything after I installed and subsequently disabled the plugin shows up as the punctuation marks in my blog.

Basically, I installed the plugin and whenever I needed a smiley, I selected it from the speedy smiley box and it appeared as punctuation marks in the code. However, if I look at my post, the smiley was not there. If I deleted the punctuation marks and manually typed it in, it shows as punctuation marks in my actual blog post. As far as I can tell, the formatting/styling of my theme has not been affected.

I did not receive any error messages and no, I've not tried the slow method and if I am honest, I am reluctant to do so at this stage.

Ok, I've managed to fix the problem of the half working smileys. I deleted the non working ones and re-typed them manually and they now work.

i do like your plugin so I will give the slow compatibility option a go with a test post and see how I get on and will feed back to you.

    Thanks,
