• Hello everyone. My blog is a little over two months old now- http://www.redrenee.com. I’ve got a pretty small core group of followers with stragglers stopping by now and again. The trouble I’m having is that my blog is very general- an omniblog. Seinfeldian in that it’s about everything and nothing all at the same time.

Most blogs I’ve read are either “open diaries” or highly specialized about tech, books, sports, etc. Our motto is “cheaper than therapy” and our tag line is “sports, life, general absurdity”. And that’s really what we’re about- nearly anything and everything. And frankly, that’s the only way I can do it. Blogging is quite therapeutic but if we narrowed things down, I wouldn’t be able to come up with content once a day like we’re attempting.

The trouble I’m having is I’m having a hard time drawing traffic to the site because we’re so general (read “unfocused”). I can’t really advertise because I don’t know who, where, or how to attract people interested in completely random stuff. I also feel a bit like an outsider to the blogger community since we’re not really a diary-type blog (though I do post that stuff occasionally).

I’m rambling tremendously but if you could:
a.) Visit my site; we can use the visits
b.) Review my site if Mr. Editor is reading this
c.) Please offer suggestions for how I can better build a following. All suggestions are welcome- even if you just think I should shut ‘er down.

    Thanks,

    Red

  • I’ve always enjoyed “omniblogs;” you never know what to expect next.

    You’ve got some great content.

The only comments/observations I have is that the theme, while it’s a good one, is a little too vanilla. It kind of reminds me more of a business or tech-based blog.

Maybe something a little more colorful?

The Google ads are kind of big. And maybe they and the videos should be centered?

Anyway, really like your site and I’ll definitely visit it often.

I think for a blog of this type I want to have a more personal connection with the blogger. It’s ultimately the same internet everyone gets, but it’s filtered through your personality. Some of your posts have that already, and some are just a movie I already saw elsewhere. I think your trick will be to find those gems I don’t see on the mainstream sites.

I hope that made sense 😐 I’ll bookmark it and hit the site for a few days and check it out. I know how you feel though, I’m in that tens of viewers/day crowd myself.

I think this is part of your problem – you’re trying to post very often, yet your content is not topically focussed. Maybe posting less often but narrowing the field of conversation may work better?
