Alex King's "Share This" seems cool, and I like the icons. With that said, however, there's still no universal "share this" icon like there is for RSS, and even the RSS icon is a mystery to most users. I'm quite sure that many people who use social bookmarking sites already know how to submit articles, and I'm pretty sure that I won't be converting anyone over to social bookmarking (maybe they'll appeal to the general user sometime in the short future).
I think I have them there just as a sort of graphical distraction, as my site is really full of words. You'll notice that I'm trying to incorporate a thumbnail graphic in front of each post; maybe that'll ease reading all that text for a little bit.
In terms of layout refinement, I've been having a lot of trouble recently. For some reason, I can't change any of my widgets or site files without FTPing in and changing it manually. What I mean is that the admin backend can't seem to modify site files; it can only modify MySQL queries to let me make new posts. I've been documenting my troubles at this thread:
