Please Help - My Whole Site is Down! (8 posts)

I'm in a state of panic because I messed up ONE line of code in my comments.php file and my whole site went down. I have no idea how to use PHP, this was a total accident from the editor under the appearance menu. I know it was a small mistake, but it was apparently enough to mess up everything.

I tried to fix it by using a backup, but don't really know how to do that either. That messed it up even more and now it's getting a "fatal error" message when I try to visit my site.

I don't know how to fix this, I really need someone to help me who can restore things back to how they were. I am willing to pay someone for their help, but don't even really know where to go in order to find someone.

Desperate to get my site back up, any help is very appreciated.

Download a fresh copy of your theme, extract the comments.php file and upload it to the correct folder inside wp-content/themes using FTP.

Yeah, I kind of tried of that. I think the problem is that I can't figure out what folder to put it in. I host the site with Hostgator and I have several domains on the account, it's kind of a mess. I tried to upload the theme files again but it made things worse than they were before.

Do you know where you installed WordPress for that site?

    Try looking in public_html.

Okay, which folder does it need to be uploaded to:

    wp-admin
    wp-includes

Pretty sure it doesn't go in wp-content, right?

Yes - it does. Have a look in wp-content/themes for your current theme's folder.
