i have an video that i REALLY would love to be able to upload to a page so that people can get a visual demonstration of what we offer.
PLEASE HELP. I have been googling but i can’t figure this one out.
i have three versions of the video as follows …..
    the .mp4 version is 18.7MB
    the .flv version is 43.7MB
    the originl .flv is 81.6MB

trying to upload it, gets me no where since there seems to be a 7MB limit. also i have tried uploading the video directly via FTP into the following folder http://www.mydomain.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/ & that didnt seem to do anything.
when i logged into my WP Dashboard & looked around the video was nowhere to be found in the media library or anywhere.
any help would be greatly appreciated!

  • Use ftp to upload the video on server and use the link on page or post with embed code or use Viper’s Video Quicktags plugin that will put icons in your editor

    thank you sir,
but please advise where should i upload the video to?
was i correct to upload into the folder that i mentioned above?
thanks once again for chiming in.
also – should be uploading the .mp4 or the .flv ?

You can create a folder of your own in root if you want and use that url in embed code
    so you would http://yourdomainname/folder/filename
If you use the plugin then flv is best as some visitors may not have a quicktime player installed for mp4

    thanks again govpatel ….
    i will try again! LOL
so by using this method, i need not worry about the 7MB size limit?
thank you for taking the time to comment & help.
    VERY much appreciated.

right. im very happy for you.
im not being as fortunate it seems.
i did as you said but no video shows up.
after chatting with dreamhost support i was advuised that creating a custom PHP.ini might help in that i wont get that 7MB limit.
i started another thread to address that issue here:
    http://wordpress.org/support/topic/creating-a-custom-phpini?replies=1#post-1813951

    thanks again.

ftp bypasses the 7mb size limit.

wordpress cannot see any files uploaded via ftp without a plugin
    http://wordpress.org/extend/plugins/add-from-server/

however, using vipers video plugin, you don’t need to access the video through wordpress, just using a full url as govpatel stated

    Rev. Voodoo,
hi thanks for chiming in ….
i did as you and govpatel said but i didnt get the video.
once i connected to the server ….
    • i double clicked on the folder that says my site name
    • i had a folder that i named Short Sale Video with the .flv inside.
    • i dragged and copied the folder into the folder i mentioned above (mydomain) folder.
    • ichecked and i could see it there i opened it up and the file was there too.
    • i right clicked on the file and from the context menu – selected to copy the url to my clipboard.
was that correct so far? – please advise otherwise.
afterwards i installed the plug-in and i can see the buttons that it added to the editor window. when i clicked on any one the new buttons i entered the url that i copied into my clipboard and hit “okay”.
    no joy 🙁
please tell me if it seems i did something wrong

    double posted – sorry.

if you can see the file on your server, then it should be good. Now your folder name could be an issue, on your server is it called “Short Sale Video”?

that could be an issue, shouldn’t have any spaces in directories on your server…. to test things out, just make a folder called video in your root on your server and put the video in there

your url to the video would then be http://www.domain.com/video/file.flv

you don’t really have to put it in a folder in root, it can go anywhere, just trying to keep things very simple

its best to keep all folders and filenames on your server simple. avoid capitals and spaces, etc. Use hyphens or underscores if you need multiple words if you like. eg, my-really-long-titled-file.flv

gotya – i will try again.
i was wondering – i really dont want to but do you think i should disable WP Super Cache & W3 Total Cache plug-ins before giviing it another shot?
    or just go for it?
also of the buttons that become available in the editor window pane…
is there any one that i should be using in particular?
i have uploaded the file with simpler name but i wonder if i should use the youtube / vimeo /blip.tv / dailymotion / veoh ?

    (@wpnewb)

    so far ….
[ERROR: Unable to parse URL, check for correct YouTube format]
(i dont know what that means)
    will keep trying

You need to use flv button on the editor as you have the video on your server not on Youtube or any other video hosts.
the button has F in circle

    hi again govpatel,
in the plug-in settings i ticked “flas video FLV” so that it can show up in the edito window and i got a message about not using something for commercial website.
    does this apply kto me.
