• I’ve been searching high and low through google and various forums and I cannot come up with a clear answer to my current predicament so I hope someone here can help me. 🙂

I already have a registered domain name with DotEasy and have hosted my site with them for a few years on their free hosting plan and have been very happy. But I recently I decided I wanted to overhaul and simplify this site using a very nice WordPress custom theme I found (make it easier to use and update for I have only basic web knowledge) and that is where I have begun running into problems.

I started going through the set-up steps via Word Press and got to the point where it requires that my host use use MySQL, and then when I looked into it I saw that I would need to upgrade my account with DotEasy and thus begin paying $6.95 a month. I sadly do not have the money right now for this, so my question is this:

Is there any way around this? Is there any other way I can use this beautiful custom theme on WordPress if my host doesn’t let me use MySQL? Can I find cheaper hosting or MySQL access elsewhere? I’ve just been looking at DreamHost Apps and cannot figure out if it’s a viable (free) solution or not…

Any help or suggestions would be GREATLY appreciated!

Do you mean free hosting sites like DreamHost Apps or… ? Do you mind expanding a bit on your reply?

I’m not averse to paying something for hosting (and thus MySQL integration) but $6.95/month is not in my budget right now…

    Yes.

$6.95/month is not in my budget right now

Unfortunately, you get what you pay for. $6.95/month may be at the top end of basic shared hosting accounts but it’s not an unreasonable amount.

    Okay.
While I greatly appreciate your answer, you glibness is far from helpful.

I’m just an unemployed print designer and photographer trying to update my portfolio site… I do not have the budget for this right now and I have rent and hydro bills to pay and I’m just trying to explore my options, and hopefully get a nice looking site out of it.

So are you saying you know of no other avenues I might explore in looking to use a custom WordPress theme? Might any one else have a semi-helpful answer?

I am saying that we do not recommend running WordPress on free hosting sites. They cause all kinds of problems. If you want to look for hosting suggestions, try search the forums for “hosting”. There are lots of pre-existing topics on the subject.

Or consider a free wordpress.com site instead.
