• Hi all –

I was trying to use shortcode in my widgets and followed the advice here:
    http://wordpress.org/support/topic/how-to-make-shortcodes-work-in-a-widget?replies=4

I apparently screwed something up when I tried to add add_filter(‘widget_text’, ‘do_shortcode’) to the functions.php template.

I don’t know much about coding (obviously) because now I can’t access my site at all, not even to login. When I try, this comes up on the screen:

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_IF in /home/eftwonde/public_html/wp-content/themes/twentyten/functions.php on line 48

    My site is http://www.eftwonder.com.

Please help – I am scared my entire site is gone!

    Many thanks,
    B

  • Try switching to the Twenty Eleven theme by renaming wp-content/themes/twentyten to wp-content/themes/twentyten-old” to the end of the folder name using FTP or whatever file management application your host provides.

Then re-upload a fresh copy of Twenty Ten & don’t edit it. Create create a child theme for your changes instead.

Thank you so much, Esmi, for your prompt response! Unfortunately, I don’t really understand your guidance… I don’t have FTP… I don’t know if this is possible (or if I’m asking too much), but is there anyway someone could go in and make these changes directly? I just don’t understand even the basics of web design…

Or, perhaps give a more detailed explanation of what I should do?

Thanks again for everyone’s support (and apologies for my lack of knowledge).

Try asking your hosts for assistance accessing your site’s files.
