Planning to install test server using Ubuntu (4 posts)

I want to setup a test server for experimenting with new stuff on my WordPress (WP) site. Ubuntu 10.04 LTS includes only WP 2.9.2 but has PHP and MYSQL at sufficient levels for running WP 3.3.1. Therefore, I have it in mind to install WP 3.3.1. What I'm uncertain about is whether or not to install the WP 2.9.2 package that comes with Unbuntu. Doing so appears to add a lot of packages that would then be maintained by the Ubuntu package management system which seems like a good idea. However, the Ubuntu package uses a so-called Debianized installation that differs from the installation instructions on WordPress.org. I have the idea that after installing the Ubuntu package there would be nothing wrong with installing WP 3.3.1 using the conventional WP installation guidance.

    Therefore, the question is -

Should I install the Ubuntu supplied package or not?

Install a LAMP stack and use WordPress 3.3.1. You can follow the conventional instructions.
