[resolved] Place Nav-Bar underneath header image on Twenty Twelve theme. (9 posts)

I'm having trouble grasping how to move the nav-bar underneath the header image in the default WordPress theme Twenty Twelve.

You'd think it would be a simple process to someone that doesn't know a fat lot about editing the .css files.

If any one could point me in the right direction that would be fantastic.

Do not edit the Twenty Twelve theme. It will be the default WordPress theme in WordPress 3.5 and having access to an unedited version of the theme is vital when dealing with a range of site issues. First create a child theme for your changes.

Would I not be able to simply save a back up of the uneditied version of the theme?

Or would a child theme be best?

    Thanks.

would a child theme be best?

Yes. Saving a back-up does not give you an unedited version for troubleshooting.

although css might work within its limitations,
editing header.php in a child theme and simply moving the nav code to below the header image code might be an easier solution.

don't neglect to create a child theme - nothing worse than loosing all customisations due to an accidental upgrade (even if you have total backup copies).

I must be a complete WordPress idiot - because I want to do this same thing (move my navigation bar below my header image) but don't understand how to do what the instructions at your provided link says to do.

I'm only slightly comfortable making small changes to html code but am terrified I'm gonna ruin everything I've done so far.

    Your help is sooo appreciated!

@joesladiesshoes - if you need help doing this, someone can certainly help you. But these forums really work best if you start your own thread. And you will need to be able to create a child theme before doing any theme modifications.
