[resolved] place 2 widgets, posts, or ads, side by side in middle (5 posts)

I have chosen the 3 column layout which is perfect for my needs, as I will put sliders into widgets in columns 1 and 3.
In the middle content column, where all my pages or posts will go, I want to put either whole width posts, or break it down to half width columns so I can place 2 blocks side by side- and I wonder if the free version has an option to do this, not by creating a layout with four fixed columns, but just being able to occasionally place two boxes together inside this middle column, so it might look like the site has centre column split into two.
I will suggest to my client that we buy him the full pro version if it will make this easier. Are there some tutorials for placing these blocks, in the free version?
Client also wants to display news feed from another website, into his posts area in the middle, is that easy enough to do?

When I want two columns in a post I use Justin Tadlocks excellent grid columns plugin.

For news feeds from other sites you probably need an RSS to Posts plugin of some kind, or if you just want to keep things simple you could just add the RSS widget into one of the Widget positions and then do some CSS styling to to make it look nice.

Thankyou!I will have to study some tutorials. Can we keep this thread open a couple of days in case I have another question?

Since I seem to have answered your question I'll mark it as resolved as I like to keep things neat in the stats. If you've got another heatmap theme related question in the future feel free to open another thread later.
