   I have what I hope is a simple question. Can someone please give me the pixel dimensions for the average masthead? Also is it better to save as a gif or a jpg, or doesn't it matter? I am creating one for a friend so I do not have the ability to use the templates myself.

   That question is rather theme specific. There's no "standard". Could your friend give you the header that her theme currently uses?
