• Still getting up to speed with my WordPress blog and I am trying to understand how pingbacks work and if they are beneficial to my blog when they trigger a Comment to be added to the post referenced.

I’ve got my first pingback and it has initiated a Comment in the post that is referenced. Is this a good thing? Or does it just end up filling posts with Comments that are generally unhelpful? Is there any reason I really should approve the comment? It seems like it would be unhelpful fluff in the post comments.

I’ve searched the forums for information on pingbacks and just don’t seem to be getting to anything that paints the picture for me.

    Thank you!

  • Pingbacks are good in that they indicate that your blog articles are getting back links from other sites. As to whether you approve them or display them on your site, that’s entirely up to you. There may be a slight SEO benefit from displaying them but only if the page that sent the pingback is, itself, relevant to your article and/or the site has a good PR.
