Pictures uploads not correctly

    Hi,
    I am satisfied with my WP installation but I am beginning to have some problems when I try to upload my pictures. If the picture is taken in a horisontal way – then I do not have any problems but all other pictures are lied down on the side as they were horisontal, WHY? How can I get them to look right? When I try to edit them I get the error message that the operation couldn’t complete. Please help.
    I use standart WP Twenty Eleven theme.
