So I'm trying to do something very simple and put pictures in my posts. I see them in the post before I publish them both in html and visual settings, but not on the website itself.
I was told it could be the 2.8.6 update but that was it....no fixes. Anyone else have this problem??? Anyone?

probably not going to be able to help unless we see the WP blog in question, and maybe not even then.
Posting pictures 'just works' so it's pretty hard to diagnose based on this limited information.

Adam, you have got quite some (x)html errors:

and when I click a post heading I get a 404 error, resulting from an url like this:
http://mlmprofitmentors.com/http:/mlmprofitmentors.com/test
Check also your WordPress URL and BLOG URL under Settings in Admin

I appreciate the response, but I don't know how to make it much more detailed. Last week putting pictures into to a post was cake and now it doesn't work.
On my site I put a 'test' category in the top navbar and put a random picture in the post to test it. It shows up in the dashboard but not on the site.
Weird....

Well, something is changed between now and then!
Also your archives link is broken: http://www.mlmprofitmentors.com2009/11
And when a picture in a post does not come up, it shows a red cross in IE; I do not see that.
So, concentrate on the getting rid of the errors and find out if the picture is uploaded. Check: wp-content/uploads/

Are you sure is not a dimension/weight issue?
Did you try a smaller one? Is it .jpg file?
