   This is actually running under WPMU, but I don't think it's a WPMU specific issue.

   I have this plugin working on my production site. I have a copy of that site on my macbook. The problem is with the copy of the site.

   I downloaded all of the image files that are in my galleries from the production server to the macbook. I created the same galleries & clicked the "scan folder for new images" button. It found all of the images that I had downloaded to the mac, but it won't display the thumbnails.

   I have checked & the thumbnails & images are there. I have tried the "create new thumbnails" bulk action several times, still no luck.

   Now, since this is a copy of a working site, it doesn't absolutely HAVE to work, but I'd like to know how to fix it in case it ever happens in production.

   Never mind. The problem was caused by the User Access Manager plugin, which defaults to password protecting the files folder. I'd forgotten about that plugin's behavior.
