.PHP File Extension in MSIE whacked

    I’ve been pulling my hair out on this.

    MSIE suddenly wants to “download” .PHP files from my blog site rather than execute them. I’ve been all over the configuration, I’ve checked the file extensions in Windows XP, and I’m baffled on this one.

    Does anyone have a tip on how I can get the .PHP files to “execute” rather than having MSIE try to download them? I’m sure it’s a problem specific to MSIE (6.0) b/c everything works fine in Firefox.

    Similar, but my problem happens when I try to manage the site. I can get to the “Dashboard” just fine, and I can view the site just fine. But when I attempt to use any of the admin files (e.g., to modify a theme, to Write, etc etc), then MSIE popsup the download dialogue.

    I suspect that it is something specific to MSIE or the .htaccess file, but I don’t know what it is.

    I’ve poked around on http://codex.wordpress.org and haven’t found anything that helps.

    I had the same problem. You need to run wp-admin/upgrade.php, even if you were running a 1.5 beta. I did so and my (identical) problems disappeared. Hope this helps.

    Same problem here, still waiting for an answer.
    But I will go ahead and try scottj’s suggestion.

    I have what may be a related problem. MSIE does OK with PHP files as long as they don’t end with an internal link, e.g. “somefile.php#link”. MSIE ignores the link and displays the top of the page. I’ve tried several ways around this, to no avail. Naturally, “somefile.htm#link” or “somefile.html#link” work just fine, so it has something to with MSIE not recognizing that the PHP file is an HTML file.

    Any suggestions?

    Use a browser that properly handles standard coding, like Firefox.
