Hey everyone. Am not very computer savvy, so forgive if stupid a question. I was able to upload photos. But now when I try all I get is a box with a red x in the corner. What can I do? Thanks for any help.

Try looking in the Admin Panel, goto the Options tab and then the Miscellaneous Tab. The box that says "Stores Uploads in this folder" should have the following: (At least in WP 2.02)
wp-content/uploads
