Hello, I'm trying to start up a photo blog as a hobby using Minimatica, however the slideshow doesn't show the picture because is it too big, but the post shows it fine. Anything I'm doing wrong?

You need to set featured images for all images you want to appear in the slider view. It's not the size.

Thanks for your reply, could you get into depth on how to do this?

In the post editor, if you don't have a Featured Image widget, you can enable it via "Screen Options" tab at the top right of the page.
Then you can select the image as featured.

You can also do so directly in the settings for any individual post or page attachment image. You'll see the "use as featured image" link.

But remember, you have to do this through the post or page with the image, not through the media library.

that's not normal. I've been using minimatica for over a year, I've never encountered that.

Are you using other plugins? try disabling them and see if that does it.

Also, just for the heck of it delete and redo the post. I've had it happen where that fixes unexplained problems sometimes, not sure why.

I just remembered, there was a bug with this theme where you have to have enough posts with featured images to get any to show at all. I think it was a minimum of 4.

Sorry, been so long since I had only 1 post in Minimatica I forgot about this.
    Hope it helps.

you say you have a featured image for the post. Minimatica shows featured images as post content by default. Is the current post image a featured image? or did you embed it? If it's embedded, I'm wondering why the featured image isn't showing up in the post content if you did indeed assign it.?

Go to settings/reading, make the number of posts match the number you want to show in the slider.

I did that, set the number of posts to 4, if you look, I have 4 images, and I still can't get it to work.

I did have an issue with a JQuery plugin where it wouldn't show images bigger than 1500, it worked in a similar way - with featured images. Might try scaling down one of them and see.

    Done. Still nothing -_-
I've even tried other themes, and they are not working. The gallery feature that is.

You have to use the shortcode [gallery] to get a gallery in most themes. Minimatica has its own function for galleries, which I don't use.
are the post content images featuerd images or did you embed them?

also, which post format are you using in the post attributes widget?

Featured Images, and I tried post, gallery, and image.
The weird thing is that the text works, just not the image.

Also, does [gallery] show on the home page? Or would I have to create a static home page?

[gallery] won't show as an excerpt, if that's what you mean. Otherwise, if you show ful post content on your "blog page" (dynamic home page that gets all posts) it should show the gallery.

Ok, thank you. I'm going to keep playing around with wordpress for a bit, try to get some slideshows to work, I'll post back if I find anything.
Thanks for your help, you have been a HUGE help.

You are currently showing excerpts, and there are no featured images, although not all themes show featured images with home page excerpts by default.

try portfolio slideshow plugin, that's the slider I use for imdividual posts on suzannekuuskmae.com. It's very flexible.

In case you don't already know (although I'm sure your're finding out,) be aware that wp basically shows images 3 ways.

1)Embedded: (when you insert the code into the post content)
these images can be attachments, meaning they were uploaded to the poat or page. Attachments also work as the [gallery]
Embeded images may be inserted into a post or page from the media library. In which case, they are not attachments, and will not work as a gallery.

2)Gallery: with the [gallery] shortcode. For attachment images (uploaded to the post or page) only.

3)Featured Images: which uses <?php the_post_thumbnail();?> template tag in which ever template you have featured images.
Featured images may be attachments or media library images. They may be part of a gallery, or not. They may be large or medium post content images, or only appear with an excerpt as a thumnail in an archive, like tag or category.

Many theme and plugin sliders pull images from the featured images, but some will use gallery images. Some themes and plugins bypass the wp media library enitrely and have their own ways of managing images.

Just some basics to be aware of as you proceed. Good luck!
